01What Loop AI is
Loop AI is the name for the artificial-intelligence features woven through the UniLoop suite. Rather than a single chatbot, it’s a set of capabilities that help students find what’s relevant to them, help staff work more efficiently, and help communities stay safe and welcoming. It is designed to support people — not to replace human judgement or the relationships at the heart of university life.
02Where you’ll meet it
Loop AI powers experiences such as personalised discovery and recommendations (surfacing the clubs, events, tasks and support most relevant to a student’s stage and interests); a guided journey narrative that helps students understand what to do next; and AI-assisted moderation that helps keep community spaces respectful and safe. Exactly which features are switched on varies by university, because every UniLoop deployment is configured to that client’s needs.
03Our principles
Everything Loop AI does is built on a few commitments:
- Privacy-first. AI operates within our “thin PII” architecture — it works with minimal, often pseudonymous, data.
- Human oversight. Consequential decisions involve a person, not an algorithm acting alone.
- Transparency. People should be able to understand, in plain terms, when AI is involved and why they’re seeing something.
- Fairness & safety. We aim to avoid unfair bias and to make community spaces safer — not to surveil people.
- Purpose-bound. AI is used to serve students and staff within the product, not for unrelated purposes.
04What data Loop AI uses
Consistent with our privacy posture, Loop AI is designed to use as little personal information as possible:
- It generally works with opaque, pseudonymous identifiers rather than directly-identifying data.
- Student personal information remains under the university’s control as the system of record; Loop AI does not need a copy of a student’s identity to be useful.
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not use students’ personal information to train third-party foundation models. Any model improvement is governed by our agreement with the university and our privacy commitments.
05Humans stay in the loop
AI assists; people decide. Recommendations are suggestions a student can ignore. Moderation tools flag content for review rather than silently acting alone, with human moderators making the call on anything consequential. Where a product highlights students who may need support, that’s a prompt for a staff member to reach out — a human decision, not an automated judgement about a person.
06Transparency & your control
We believe personalisation should be legible. Where Loop AI shapes what someone sees, we aim to explain it in plain language — for example, “why am I seeing this?”-style explanations — and to let people re-tune or turn off personalised recommendations. Universities can configure how AI features behave, and can disable them.
07What we won’t do
- We won’t make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about a person without human review.
- We won’t use AI for covert surveillance or profiling unrelated to the service.
- We won’t sell personal data or hand it to third parties for their own AI training.
- We won’t present AI output as human, or hide when AI is materially involved.
08Governance & accountability
Loop AI is governed by the same standards as the rest of UniLoop: data minimisation, access controls and audit logging, testing before release, and accessibility as a baseline. We keep our AI practices under review as the technology and the regulatory landscape evolve, and we work with each university to make sure AI features fit their policies and their students.
